Prophets and Lightbulbs By Sadiq Abdulsalam Adeiza

Image
Prophets and Lightbulbs By Sadiq Abdulsalam Adeiza When I was little, I wanted to be a prophet when I grew up, not the prophet Lagbajas running around these days but the real deal, the Moses, the Joseph, the David kind of prophet. I wanted to perform miracles, receive revelations, command great armies etc. Mind you, I was a little boy with a head full of bible stories from school. That dream was short lived however as I soon learnt from my religious faith that the ship had sailed and the final messenger of God (SAW) had come and gone. So disgruntled, like every other kid, I  turned my ambitions to less lofty heights like becoming the president of the country or the next Jay-Jay Okocha. For me, science was love at first sight; the discovery, the creativity, the logic, the reasoning, the ingenuity, they all blended to form mosaic colors of wonderfulness and endless possibilities in my mind. Every time I think of science, I think of a lightbulb. Illumination.

ARMAGEDDON By; Omiwole Seun Memories coming like ray of sun Not easily tamed, not easily bridged Watching afar like the eagle No standing nor sitting like a prisoner in Mongolia prison Regretting moments lost Hurricane here, whirlwind there What is the way out? No respite for longitude and latitude Government is no more Is this not Armageddon?  Memories flaunting with shadows  No one else but the shadows Aching for the wasted glimpse of armistice in doomsday The oxygen accounted for no one knows the last  Is this the end? It was all a lie we say It is all a reality we see Caught in a moment we are Taking the grace like filth Not knowing we ourselves are filthiness Calling him a liar The end is here The stage is set Hot water from the eyes is nothing A moment of pleasure gone Eternity of sorrow resides

The Upper-room and its Romance Saga by Meduoye Adeyinka

The Upper-room and its Romance Saga   By Meduoye Adeyinka Like a pebble thrown in water, our national peace sinks in an unfettered manner, as she continues to ply her heinous trade in the core of the village square. She burgles into corridors – wriggles into houses – irrupts onto communities – abducting naïve and struggling souls, and then deleting her stubborn rivals in strict accordance to her command under the heavens. She wags her tail in delight, parades her feet like a squire saying “I shall continue to be the one-in-one, who is so boastful of my oriki and ostentatious in my bizarre appearance’. She prances around the courtyard, flailing her borrowed sword into the aura of mischief. This time, beating her chest unrepentantly, as the chants of her cognomen echoes aloud “I now have the key to the privy of the upper-room, since I can’t dig my sword to the sands – I can mishap in the bush, mishap at home, mishap in the farm, and yet the strong arm of justice can’t u

If only you know how bad my heart bleeds If only you know how hard I cry behind closed doors Life seems to be unfair to me This is too much for me to handle. Being the first child of the family At 22,I ought to have been successful All my classmates then in school have made it Why is my story different? No matter how much effort I put in, Vanity is all it turns out to Is it that I am cursed or what? Obviously,I'm tired of life! Failure is what i call myself When all efforts keep coming to nought Oh!Wicked world! Life, why have you decided to treat me this way? Promised my family a better life Promised mom I'm gonna make her proud But how do I go about it? When life keeps treating me bad. I'm so depressed and frustrated ri
