The gender and charity CDs group in Kwara state, held a public lecture where they sensitized students of Government Day Kaiama, on the importance of gender and charity development.

Community Development Service (CDS) which is one of the four (4) cardinals of the NYSC scheme has served as a platform for serious minded youth to analyze various problems facing the community and finding a lasting solution to it.

It was in this light that the Charity and Gender CDS of Kaiama LGA Kwara State, decided to sensitize the students of Government Day Secondary Kaiama on the meaning of Gender and Development
Corper Faith Kalamu who presented on gender identity defined it as “the personal sense of one’s own gender”. Furthermore, she noted that gender serves as the basis of a person’s self-awareness in relation to other members of the society.

In an exclusive interview with the advocacy chairman of the group, he noted that the sensitization program was “born out of the need to see that children and people generally are treated equally irrespective of their sex”. He further stated that the students are the leaders of tomorrow and that is why the group has decided to educate them on gender equality.

He encouraged the Corps members to keep the good work and also urged them to embark on various sensitization programs in order to keep the public aware of gender equality.
