Asha Adedayo Samuel is from Kwara state. He holds a Bachelor of Art in Fine Art from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and currently pursuing his master degree in Fine Art.

WHAT IS ASHA ART FESTIVAL ALL ABOUT?

Asha Art festival is all about building creative minds. I came about it when I realized that society often channel and encourage science technology more than art. Basically Asha art festival is a creative programme that brings together students between the ages of 9-18 from different schools who share their ideas on creativity and work together as a team. The festival features arts workshop for all participants across the country. The platform is also an avenue to build and equip children’s creative minds. This is because, a creative mind is very essential which makes me to believe that in our country Nigeria, every child is creative in his or her own way be it art, science, or commercial students. Asha Art festival is also a training ground. It trains children/youths on how to be independent financially using the skills/creativity they possess.

HOW DID YOU COME ABOUT YOUR NAME

Asha is my surname. I decided to use it in order to keep to the legacy of my family. More importantly being the only son of my parents. The name was officially registered in 2018 under the name Asha Festival

WHERE HAVE YOU HOSTED PREVIOUS FESTIVALS

Well! I hosted the first edition in Katsina 2017 during my youth service. Both the second and third editions were held in Kwara state in 2018 and 2019 respectively at Faith Academy featuring young talents across Nigerian schools.

WHAT DOES ASHA FESTIVAL LOOK LIKE

Asha Art Festival is a two days programme which normally starts on Friday and ends on Saturday. The event features award and gala night. It is a colourful one. Always bringing the best from children.

WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR FUTURE EVENTS

My plans for future events is to build a platform for social development by empowering youth/children who have verse imagination, creative skills in art and craft. Showcasing the performance of highest quality of originality in order to take art to a new level in terms of social development. Furthermore, my plans is to build confidence in children and to bring out that creative skill and nurture it.

WHAT ARE YOUR CURRENT LIMITATIONS

Under the current situation, there are quite some limitations. One of these is the issue of poor sourcing. There are little hands on deck sourcing to this programme which is a great challenge to Asha Art Festival. Also I encounter some challenges with parents, some parents tend to discourage their children from participating. They discourage them by telling their children that they are going to study good professional courses in the university so they don’t need to participate in this festival. I also have this challenge of making the festival a global one.

WHAT ARE YOUR EXPECTATIONS ON THE FUTURE OF THE ASHA BRAND

My expectation is for Asha Art Festival to be one of the top sustainable high profile art event activities in Africa and the world at large.  Where children and youth will exhibits their various skills. And people all over the world can participate in it.

Creative Director, Asha
